Match report
Oxford were huge favourites for the match, having won the FA Cup earlier in the season (beating the Royal Engineers 2-0 at the Oval). However, Cambridge thwarted then by lining up all 11 players across the goal line, to the frustration of captain Cuthbert Ottaway. Eventually, Robert Vidal broke through the Cambridge forward line and dribbled the length of the pitch to score the first Varsity match goal, and Oxford held on for victory.
